I love 70s patterns, and using up bedding for dressmaking, oh the yoys!! Your dress looks wonderful pocket too! This has really inspired me to delve back into my stash.
Personally I love the pocket--I think it is quite charming. However if you think that it will deter you from wearing your cute dress than by all means, off with the pocket! Side seam pockets would look great too. BTW, I love the keyhole neckline. :D
Uh, just to be the dissenting vote, but I think the pocket does look "aprony". But a blue belt or waist ties with blue piping would bring that punch of blue back to the bodice. Very nice.
The beauty of sewing your clothes yourself is that you can make it EXACTLY as you want it. Have it your way. Authentic is fine, or pocket without the trim to blend in more. Personally, I love the idea of stealth side seam pockets for utility and a streamlined look. It is a gorgeous dress. I bet it will be lots of fun to wear.
I also love the keyhole neckline, but to the pocket...I own Swirls with both side seam and patch pockets so either would be authentic. The edging on it does break up the flow of the floral pattern and distracts a little. I say take off the edging and re-apply.
I totally love the pocket. It's what you want in a 'Swirl' style wrap dress--a utility pocket! Many of them have applique designs, so you could go over the top with a cute iron on silhouette cut from the deep blue fabric.p.s. the 2nd dress in Lizzie's article was mine--and I thinks it looks alot like yours.
I love the pocket! It's cute, just look at the first picture in her post! youngyankeelady.blogspot.com
Thanks so much for the link to my article!I think I'd be tempted to see how a second pocket on the left side would look.
Thanks so much for all of the ideas! I am just about done with this dress, but I have been very lazy about getting to the hem. I made another pocket minus the blue edge, and I think it'll keep that 70s patch pocket look without distracting too much. I'll get some pics up as soon as I can! Thanks again!
I don't mind it as is.If I look at the pattern envelope picture I think "'70s" but if I just look at the finished product, I don't get that feel at all.I like it!
I like the pocket and since you removed the trim it probably blends in nicely. But I like the trim too!
Thanks for stopping at Farmhouse Garden! I love to hear from you...
